The Emmaus Mission Center is a 501c-3, non profit, multi-denominational social service agency that was established to provide support for marginalized families and individuals within a fifty-mile radius of Cass County, Indiana.
In 1994, a former school complex, consisting of a church, rectory and school building was purchased for this purpose. The rectory was converted into a state licensed Morningstar Girl's Home. The former school has been renovated and houses the emergency housing shelter, corporate office, and crisis intervention center. The Benevolence Center is a food pantry, clothing, and household goods distribution facility.
The Mission clientele typically includes elderly people that are attempting to survive on the bare minimum, single parents that have become unable to provide for their children, those that have become homeless for various reasons and recent arrivals attempting to make a new start in our country. Most are the "working poor" and on the brink of financial and familial disaster.
The Food Pantry is open five days a week and distributes government commodities as well as donated food. The Pantry provides food for the Morningstar Girls’ Home, the Homeless Shelter, and over 1600 walk-in clients each month. The Food Pantry is staffed by volunteers.
